The King Island Gallery aims to encourage the artistic growth of King Island artists, enhance the cultural life of the community, and build the reputation of King Island.
WATCH SCHLOMIT CARVE AT THE WHARF
Our Artist in Residence, Schlomit Moria - Bushwood Creations will be carving timber down at the wharf this Wednesday and Thursday. She plans to start at 10:30am each day and work for around 2-3 hours. If you’d like to see her wield a chainsaw, Wednesday will be the best day to visit, as most of that work is expected to happen then!
A huge thank you to Jan Van Ruiswyk for kindly donating the timber, which is a massive contribution to our community, and milling it in record time; our team, Dave and Kerry, for collecting and delivering it; and Timbo for sealing the base and securing the post in the ground so the finished carving can be enjoyed for years to come.

Drawing with Sensitivity with Jody Graham
Sip and sketch ✏️🍷
Join artist Jody Graham for a relaxed and thoughtful drawing workshop inspired by the landscapes of King Island.
Over three hours, participants will slow down, observe closely, and explore how simple pencil lines, tone and texture can capture a sense of place. Through guided exercises, Jody will share techniques for composition, mark-making, light and shadow, helping participants develop confidence and sensitivity in their drawing practise.
Perfect for adults with some drawing experience who are looking to deepen their observational skills and connect creatively with the landscape around them.

The King Island Gallery Studio will be open every Saturday from 10am-3pm, starting September 5th, in preparation for the King Island Landcare Print Exchange.
Resources including lino, ink, cutting tools and use of the printing press all available at the King Island Gallery Studio for participants to use if needed.

King Island Landcare Print Exchange
King Island Landcare Group is proud to invite printmakers to take part in the ‘Caring for the Land’ Print Exchange. This Exchange is open to all printmakers not only throughout Australia but worldwide. We encourage students, novice, emerging and established printmakers to participate.
If you’re on King Island and would like to participate in the exchange but may not have access to materials and equipment to do so, let us know so we can arrange a time to help you with what you need.
Public Art Display
The King Island Gallery invites artists and community members to express interest in displaying their artwork in public spaces. Providing opportunities to showcase local creativity in prominent community locations such as the hub, and airport.

Young Artist Workshop - Expression of Interest for Artist Instructor

The King Island Gallery is inviting artists, creatives, and community members to express their interest in sharing their knowledge and expertise, by leading and holding workshops.

PAST WORKSHOPS
Let your child’s imagination run wild in this playful mixed media workshop!
Young artists will explore colour, texture, collage, drawing, painting, and found materials as they create their own unique artworks mounted in a box frame to take home. Designed for children of all skill levels, this hands-on session encourages creativity, confidence, and creative problem-solving in a fun and supportive environment.
All materials will be provided, but children are encouraged to bring special items such as buttons, scraps of lace and ribbon, shells, and other interesting treasures to incorporate into their artwork.

Beginners Whittling Workshop with Artist in Residence, Schlomit
Come along for a relaxed day of carving, creativity and learning a new skill you can take anywhere!
Learn the basics of whittling, work with the grain, practise different cuts and sharpening, and create your own small wooden figurines from start to finish.
No experience necessary! All tools, wood and safety gloves provided.
Suitable for 16+. Closed shoes required.

Paint Us Together Workshop
Explore • Imagine • Create
Spend a special day creating, connecting, and having fun together!
Paint Us Together is a creative workshop for children aged 5+ and one parent or guardian per child, designed to encourage imagination, confidence, and communication through art.
Work together to create a unique canvas to take home, a special keepsake and shared memory, just in time for Father’s Day.
You’ll be fully supported with the guidance of qualified art teacher, Karryn Lesley, with a focus on fun while building shared memories.
